If he’s angry, I rage with him. If he’s grieving, I do too. When he thinks about the past, I’m right there, walking beside him. I am the window to his soul, and yet, in spite of that, he’s a riddle with no solution.
A puzzle with too many missing pieces.
We always want what we can’t have. All I wanted was some peace and quiet. To fall in love with someone untouched by the magic of Woodland Creek. I craved normalcy.
But not as much as I craved him.
When he returns to town a broken hero, there’s no choice to be made. I will reach him when no one else can. Together, we will face a future he doesn’t want.
Why? Because our love is pure magic.
About the Author
When she’s not chauffeuring kids around town, performing her mom duties as a short order cook and maid, or vacuuming for her fastidious husband, she hammers away at her keyboard at her big girl job as a patent attorney. While vodka and exercise have provided some relief from the daily grind, it is reading … and now writing … that are her true escapes.
He chuckled, low and throaty.
When I forced my eyes back to his face, I found him carefully watching me as if he was trying to gauge what I was thinking. A small smile pulled at the corners of his mouth.
“Let me help.” My voice was breathless. I needed to get a grip. He was just a man.
A very wet, very handsome, very sexy man. But still just a man. It wasn’t as if I’d never been around a man before.
I blotted at his face with the dry towel, taking care to get the water out of the fuzzies of his beard. The towel slipped from my fingers, but they remained on his face, brushing lightly against the coarse bristly hair. The feel of them against my fingertips was as if someone defibrillated my already racing heart.
I stared at the lips he’d denied me the night before.
They twitched as desire coiled around us, begging one of us to make the first move.
It would have to be him. After last night, I wouldn’t make the first move.
Kiss me, Quinn. Kiss me so I’ll know. Don’t turn away again.
He sat still as a tree, and I held my breath, waiting for him to bend. My hand slipped from his beard and trailed down his neck. Apparently, it hadn’t gotten the memo that we were waiting for Quinn to make the first move.
“Willow?” he muttered.
It was only my name, but it held every question I didn’t want him to ask, every doubt I didn’t want him to acknowledge.
Why did you start writing? Or what made you want to write a book?
I’d always written things but never a book. Papers, letters, diary entries, hate mail … but never a book. One day, I thought I want to try this so I made it my New Year’s resolution in 2013. I published my debut in June of the same year. From Day 1, I loved everything about it. My debut novel certainly wasn’t perfect, but I loved it and saw promise in myself.
Do you plot out your books, or do you let your characters dictate where the story will go?
I’m a pantser. I never know what my characters are going to do or say when I sit down to write. I have a very general idea of where the book is headed, but when I veer to the left or right of that, no one gets grounded.
Do you have another job besides author? Or what did you do before you became an author?
I’m an intellectual Property Attorney. It’s excruciatingly boring. In fact, I just fell asleep. Did you? It does mean, however, that I use words like “however” and I have intense hatred for people who steal books.
What do you like to do in your off time or to relax?
I write. That sounds trite. But, with 3 kids, a job, and a husband who really likes clean floors, I don’t have a lot of free time. My second job is my hobby, and I love it that way.
Which authors do you enjoy reading when you have time?
Right now, I’m sort of obsessed (read that as, totally obsessed) with Pepper Winter’s Indebted Series. I like to read dark, romance. Not weird, rapey romance. But, dark, thought provoking romance that pushes the boundaries without completely obliterating them.
**SOME SUPER FUN RAPID FIRE #CBB STYLE QUESTIONS :
Pink or Purple: Pink. Always pink. Forever and ever pink.
Mac or PC: Mac. My husband teases me that I’m in the Apple Early-Adopter Program.
Man bun or clean cut: Clean cut. Though the books I’ve been reading lately have me giving man buns a second look.
Top or Bottom: I’ve always been a top bunk kind of girl.
Abs or Chest: Abs. Any man with a gym membership and forty-five minutes each day can develop a chiseled chest. Abs though … they require not just discipline, but restraint.
Jeans or Leggings (do you Roe? Because you totally should!): Leggings. And a long, long, long, ass-covering top.
Summer or Fall: Summer. I’d rather sweat than shiver.
Pen or Pencil: Felt tip pen.
TV or Books: Books. I’d be okay with never turning on the television again. Though my husband would disagree with this plan. Since I like keeping him happy, I choose reading while he watches football.
Christian Grey or Gideon Cross: Jesse Ward. Was he not a choice? Oh. Yeah, it’s still Jesse Ward. ***<—- touche’! Total oversight!! Three, two, one, ZERO BABY!!!!!
Lick or Suck: I assume we’re talking about Tootsie Pops here. I’m not patient enough to count the licks to the center of the Tootsie Pop. I’m more of a pop that thing in your mouth sucking it ‘til it’s a goner.
Socks or slippers: Neither. Barefoot.
#CBB Rocks or #CBB Rocks (hard choice here): This seems like a gimme but #CBB Rocks
This concludes our rapid fire questions, you’ve been deemed #CBB Certified. I’m pretty sure that’s a good thing!
